If the preliminary search reveals that the Mark or a similarly confusing Mark is already registered or an application for the Mark is already filed at the USPTO, then you may determine that you do not wish to move forward with the Mark. This can save you considerable fees because the next step after conducting a preliminary search is to conduct a thorough trademark search by an independent search company. The fees associated therewith and a thorough review and opinion letter advising you on availability for filing would thereby be avoided. All of the aforementioned preliminary services are extended to our clients as a courtesy.
